1. Emerging Technologies & Convergence
- Emerging technologies are early-stage, fast-evolving fields with disruptive potential — often at the convergence of disciplines (bio + nano + info + cogno, "NBIC").

3. Green Hydrogen & Fuel Cells
- Hydrogen "colours" denote how it's made: green (electrolysis of water using renewable electricity — clean), grey (from fossil gas), blue (fossil + carbon capture). Green hydrogen is a clean fuel & energy carrier.
- Fuel cell = a device that converts hydrogen + oxygen directly into electricity, emitting only water — powering vehicles & backup systems.
- National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to make India a global hub for green-hydrogen production & export, decarbonising industry & transport.

4. Energy Storage & Carbon Capture
- Batteries: lithium-ion dominates; emerging chemistries — sodium-ion, solid-state & flow batteries — aim for safer, cheaper, longer-life storage. Critical minerals (lithium, cobalt) drive supply-chain concerns.
- Storage matters because solar/wind are intermittent; large-scale storage (batteries, pumped hydro, green hydrogen) is key to a renewable grid.

5. Synthetic Biology & Gene Drives

6. Nuclear Fusion Frontiers
