2. Relict Ranges: Aravalli, Vindhya & Satpura

The plateau's mountains are relict (residual) — the worn-down stumps of once-lofty fold mountains, not young ranges like the Himalaya.

7. The North-Eastern (Meghalaya) Plateau

A detached north-eastern extension of the peninsular block — the Meghalaya (Shillong) Plateau — was separated from the main plateau by the Malda gap (a faulted trough now buried under Ganga–Brahmaputra alluvium).
