6. Ocean Acidification
- Ocean acidification: ongoing ocean pH decrease from absorbing anthropogenic atmospheric CO2 (oceans absorbed ~1/4-1/3 of all human-emitted CO2 since Industrial Revolution).

Coral Reefs & Coral Bleaching — the Mechanism

- Bleaching = under thermal/acidification/pollution stress, corals expel the zooxanthellae, turn white, and lose their food source. Prolonged bleaching → coral death.
